A question design to give no choice

LA COLOSA – THE CASE

On July 28, a popular consultation (a constitutional figure for civil manifestation over a certain topic) was performed in the municipality of Piedras (Tolima) in regards to the exploration campaign performed by AngloGold Ashanti (AGA) at La Colosa project.

The question asked in the consultation demonstrates that an emotional approach can be abused and ultimately lead to polarize a population, closing the opportunity of new development opportunities.

THE QUESTION

“Do you agree, as inhabitant of the Piedras (Tolima) municipality, to the performance in our jurisdiction of exploration, exploitation, treatment, transformation, transportation, material washing activities, from large scale gold mining exploitation activities, the storage and use of materials harmful to health and the environment, specifically cyanide and/or any other substance or dangerous material associated to these activities and the use of surface and underground waters of our municipality during such developments or in any other of similar nature that can affect and/or limit the supply of potable water for human consumption, the traditional productive vocation and agricultural of our municipality?”
